Over 900 regional athletes on 175 Teams and 35 Iron Solos competed over 100 miles from Hyak to Golden Gardens in 90+ degree heat Sunday. Five legs with Mountain Biking the Iron Horse Trail, Road Biking the Snoqualmie Valley, Paddling the Sammamish Slough and running the Burke Gilman Trail for a total of 100 miles.

A biker from Wenatchee was seriously injured in a fall near North Bend along with several other bikers having less serious injuries. Several Iron Solo racers were taken to area hospitals for heat exhaustion and were released that evening.

The Mountains to Sound Relay is in its third year and helps raise awareness and contributes to the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust. It has become the sister event to the similar Ski to Sea Relay in Bellingham.
