Basic Rules
of the road: MT
Bike Starts 8AM
1. This is an open course. That means bikers and runners must obey all traffic
laws that apply to riding and running.
(No requirments for Mt Bike, Cyclocross OK but loose gravel on bridges and
if it is raining, knobier tires may be best.)
2. Groups and drafting are currently acceptable on the Road Bike leg. Again,
you must obey all traffic laws. No Recumbent bikes
3. Course Monitors will be available at key spots along the course. Riders
and runners must obey all stop lights. You may be DQ'd if you disobey a
course monitor or officer.
4. Single paddlers only for five member teams and Iron. Tandem for six member
'Tandem Paddle Teams and Pairs teams in their respective division.' Standup
Boards, Outriggers to 4'6", pedal kayaks, surfskis and canoes are acceptable.

PARTICIPANTS:
The Mountains to Sound Relay is a relay race open to all persons 15 years
or older. The relay consists of Mountain Biking, Road Biking, Canoeing/Kayaking
and Running. Each Leg finisher need only 'Touch Off' to their next leg racer.
It is recommended that all participants are in strong physical condition and
are fully capable of negotiating their individual leg or legs with alacrity
and safety.
Teams consist of 5 members for single paddle and 6 members for tandem paddle.
Teams may use less than 5 or 6 members with no more than two legs per member.
PAIRS TEAMS consist
of two people each competing in every other leg. Two consecutive legs by one
team member OK. Tandem paddle allowed if that is the division you've chosen.
We will maintain single paddle pairs division
THE IRON solo division is for one person to complete all five legs and the
full 100+ miles alone and be physically capable of negotiating the full distance.
Only single kayaks, surfskis, canoes and the like on the paddle leg for five
member and pairs teams except for the six member or pairs Tandem Paddle Teams.
No Oarlocks. Paddlers must wear approved life vests. Standup boards OK
The Committee reserves the right to disqualify any team member or iron solo who does not abide by established race rules or whose equipment is deemed to be unsafe for the event in which the person is entered. A team may also be disqualified if any team participant or affiliate displays unsportsmanlike conduct or brings illegal equipment into the exchange points.
RACE: The race will begin at 8:00 A.M. at the Iron Horse Trail Parking lot near Hyak. All paddlers will be sent on their way by 1PM and all runners will be sent on their way by 4PM. NO ONE OR TEAM WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FOR NOT MAKING THESE DEADLINES. THEY ARE SIMPLY TO KEEP THE EVENT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME TO LET OUR MONITORS MOVE ON.
RESULTS: Each leg is timed. Results for leg times and overall finish times will be posted to the web and available all day.
Awards will be given out three deep for each division. We will begin disseminating awards by 4PM Sunday when any particular division has three places finished. Major BBQ, Music and goodies for 2011 !!! Miss it at your peril!
